Problems with Bittorent

So I just moved to New York City, and I'm not sure if that has anything to do with my problem, but whenever I try to download any torrent, it won't download because it says there are no seeds or peers but when I look online at the torrent file it's not true. So I'm wondering if my location change has affected it? The building I'm in has a crappy wireless internet and so I have my computer hooked up into the wall. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Every torrent I try to download becomes inactive.

It sures sounds like something is blocking torrents.  Does that wall connection go straight to your ISP or does your building have its own firewall?  The ISP could also be blocking torrents.  Are you using the default port number in your torrent client software?  I think the default port number is in the range 6881 to 6999.  I know I had to change whatever number uTorrent uses by default in order to get it to work.
